Aliya Salmanova is a young Azerbaijani-American composer living in New York City. She was a chosen participant for Luna Composition Lab 2018 and Opera Omaha Music and Poetry Workshop 2019. Her compositions have been performed at major concert halls such as ROULETTE and NATIONAL SAWDUST in New York, and KANEKO, in Omaha. She was also a member of the X QABALA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018 and has performed at many concerts and festivals in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Besides composing, Aliya is also a pianist, music theory enthusiast, and has worked as a harmony and sight-reading tutor.
Aliya learned all she knows about music education from her beloved high school in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Mannes School of Music. Now she is interested in writing music for film and is very happy to be attending NYU Steinhardt for Screen Scoring. Here she continues to pursue her undergraduate degree as she recently finished her second year at Mannes, studying with grammy-nominated composer, Missy Mazzoli.
